Day 1: Overnight flight to Italy
Depart North America on an overnight flight to Europe.
Day 2: Rome
Meet your Tour Director at the airport in Rome, a city that integrates its past into the present better than any other. Enjoy lunch, sightseeing, and a debrief from your overnight flight.
Day 3: Sightseeing of Rome| Roman Colosseum | Vatican City
Explore Rome on your own or take an expert-led tour of Vatican City. Take an expertly guided tour of the Roman Colosseum, where you can almost hear the stamping feet of the crowds gathered for gladiatorial combat, and the Roman Forum, the former heart of the Roman empire. Finish the day by taking a self-guided walking tour of Rome and see the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Spanish Steps.
Day 4: Pompeii
• Once a city of ancient prosperity, many wealthy Romans established their homes here thousands of years ago. When neighboring Mount Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79, it cloaked the Roman resort in volcanic ash, perfectly preserving the minutiae of daily life. The buildings and artifacts left behind make this one of the richest archaeological sites in the world. See the fully excavated ruins of the town’s ancient temples, forum, and theater. Of Pompeii’s three bathhouses, the Stabian Baths was the largest complex. Learn about their ingenious heating method—one of the earliest examples of its kind—that brought hot water to visitors.
Day 5: Rome to Athens
Fly to Athens and discover the ancient city named for Athena, goddess of war and wisdom.
Day 6: Athens
Take an expert-led tour of Athens and see the Olympic Stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896. Visit the Acropolis and see the Parthenon, perhaps the world’s greatest architectural feat. Then check out the Temple of Athena Nike, which once housed a gold statue of the goddess, her wings clipped to prevent her from deserting the city. Explore the Acropolis Museum. Take a walking tour of Athens through the Plaka District. End the day by participating in a Greek dance lesson.
Day 7: Delphi
Ponder the mysteries of your future at the sacred site of Delphi. Greece’s ancient military leaders left gifts for the Oracle in hopes of receiving good fortune in battle. Visit the Temple of Apollo, where it’s said the god communicated with mortals, and stop at the Delphi Museum, which features artifacts from 550 B.C.
Note: This 11-hour excursion includes round-trip bus transfer to Delphi from Athens.
Day 8: Greek Island Cruise
Board your cruise ship for a three-day adventure that will take you to the islands and coastal towns of Greece. A three island shore excursion package is included, featuring incredible sights that perfectly complement your comprehensive itinerary. White sand beaches helped make these destinations prized (and disputed) territories, while Turkish, Roman, and Greek influences helped shape the unique blend of cultures you’ll encounter. You’ll also enjoy on-board activities as you sail the beautiful crystalline waters.
Day 9: Santorini and Mykonos
Santorini, known since ancient times as Thira, is one of the most famous islands in the world. The fact that you can sit in front of the caldera, enjoy local dishes, a drink or a coffee while gazing at the remarkable beauty of an active volcano is priceless!
Mykonos has been known as the island of the winds, and it’s located in the heart of the Cyclades group. Its fame has spread across the world, as a cosmopolitan and luxurious holiday destination. Bathed in the bright sunlight of the Aegean by day, she dresses in charm and mystery by night, beckoning its visitors to dance and have fun in the beach bars and clubs, go for a shopping spree in luxury stores, visit its art venues, and -in short- have a truly memorable stay!
Day 10: Çeşme, Turkey
Çeşme is a beautiful coastal town on the western coastline of Turkey, right across the Greek island of Chios. It is a well-known holiday resort town that keeps its original traditional character and many visitors choose to travel here in order to spend their time by the sea.
Day 11: Depart for Home
Transfer to the Athens airport for flight home.
